James W. Navalta, Graham R. McGinnis, and a doctoral student in the Interdisciplinary Health Sciences program Elias M. Malek (all Kinesiology and Nutrition Sciences) published a paper titled, "Exercise in a natural environment increases program compliance in people with chronic migraine: A pilot cross-over randomized trial," in the Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapies. The study detailed how, in people with migraines, compliance to an exercise program was greater in an outdoor environment, with more exercise sessions completed in nature (90%) than indoors (72%). The study was funded by a Centers of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) National Institutes of Health Pilot Grant awarded to UNLV.
