Graham McGinnis (Kinesiology and Nutrition Sciences) received a Nevada IDEA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence grant for his study “Diurnal Regulation of Exercise-induced Interleukin-6 Production and Secretion.” The year-long project seeks to extend existing knowledge about how exercise leads to the production and secretion of the myokine Interluekin-6, and will investigate how time of day regulates the exercise-induced production of Interluekin-6 and the heart’s sensitivity to it. The study represents a novel progression in harnessing the therapeutic potential of exercise and has implications for protecting the heart against myocardial infarction.
