Donovan Conley (Communication Studies) and Benjamin Burroughs (Journalism and Media Studies) have co-edited a special issue of the journal Communication and the Public on the theme: Ad/Dressing Civic Wounds. This publication began as a conference hosted by the departments of COM and JMS in March 2019, which brought together nationally prominent scholars in rhetoric, communication, and media studies. The special issue grapples with ongoing challenges to civic life during a time of acute uncertainty and public withdrawal: challenges of history and memory, public trauma, mediation and/as enemy-making, digitized therapeutics, and the legacies of violence and structural exclusion. Conley and Burroughs co-authored the introduction, "Pained Publics," and Conley also contributed an essay called "Deliverance." The journal is accessible through UNLV's library.
