Associate professor Cass Shum (Hospitality) recently published her paper, "Synthesizing MeToo: a meta-analysis of workplace sexual harassment in hospitality and tourism," in the International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management with college alumna, Carrie Yunxuan Zhang '23 (City University of Macau). The article synthesized 184 effect sizes from 39 independent hospitality and tourism studies. It showed that sexual harassment affects work-related (job attitudes and job performance) and personal-related (well-being and reactions) outcomes. Young individuals in an unfavorable work environment (a high sexual harassment climate, low organizational support, and low employee status), especially in a high power distance culture, are more likely to be targeted.
