Berenice Chavez (Film) won two Pacific Southwest Student Emmy Awards in June. The awards were presented during a ceremony in San Diego. Her film, North to Paradise,won in the category of long-form documentary, while her film, Passing the Torch,won in the craft of editing category. Both projects were created in UNLV's film program. She has been accepted to the American Film Institute as an editing fellow and will begin attending there this fall. The Pacific Southwest region includes the California cities of San Diego, Bakersfield, Palm Springs, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Santa Maria, as well as Las Vegas. The annual presentation of these awards is intended to be an incentive for the continued pursuit of excellence for those working in television and to focus public attention on outstanding cultural, educational, technological, entertainment, news, and informational achievements in television.
