Philanthropy As Fuel
Often, we think of science as the engine that drives medicine. However, while bioscience and technology may be the engine of medicine, philanthropy is the fuel.
Throughout history, many of the greatest medical advances were made possible by support from altruistic individuals and organizations. Patronage from the Lincean Academy led to Galileo’s design of the microscope in 1625 AD. In the 18th and 19th centuries, vaccines for smallpox, polio, and measles were developed with funds from universities, charitable organizations, and governments. Complete mapping of the human genome in 2003 was entirely funded by public grants.
Philanthropy has played a critical role in the establishment of the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV – and a decade later, it continues fueling the school by providing scholarships for deserving students, supporting faculty-led research, and delivering care to impoverished communities in Las Vegas and throughout Southern Nevada. The history of modern medicine shows us that charitable investments made today will have long and far-reaching impacts for years to come. Medical education, research, and care provided by the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV and supported through philanthropy will benefit the region today, tomorrow, and beyond.

Membership Levels
- Healthcare Trailblazers

Faculty and staff who contribute a cumulative total of $24,000 or more over a five-year period will be recognized as lifetime members of the Healthcare Visionaries Society. Healthcare Trailblazers will be celebrated for making a lasting commitment to the future of medical education.
- Founders Circle

Faculty and staff who contribute $2,400 or more annually will be recognized as members of the Founders Circle and honored as those who are at the forefront of supporting educational excellence and innovation at our school.
- Healthcare Champions

Faculty and staff who give $1,200 to $2,399 annually will be recognized as Healthcare Champions who play a crucial role in advancing our healthcare mission through their financial support.
- Wellness Advocates

Faculty and staff who give $600 to $1,199 annually will be acknowledged as Wellness Advocates whose support enhances our community engagement and educational programs.
- Friends of Medicine

Faculty and staff who make contributions up to $599 annually will be celebrated as Friends of Medicine, emphasizing that every gift, regardless of size, is vital in supporting our mission.

Recognition
All members will receive recognition on the school's website and in select publications. Healthcare Trailblazers and members of the Founders Circle will be honored in the annual donor report and on a dedicated plaque at the medical school.
Branded Recognition Items & Memorabilia
Exclusive premium recognition items branded with the medical school logo may be made available to donors participating in the campaign at certain levels. An annual thank-you gift that varies each year, such as a holiday ornament or a custom-made item, may also be available.
Networking Opportunities
All members will be given access to networking events with fellow faculty and staff donors, fostering a stronger sense of community and collaboration.
Exclusive Events
All members are invited to the annual Faculty/Staff Appreciation BBQ hosted by the UNLV Foundation. Healthcare Trailblazers and Founders Circle members will also receive invitations to special events such as the donor appreciation luncheon, receptions with the president or dean, special lectures, and hosted suites for UNLV football and basketball games.
Updates and Reports
All members will be given updates on the impact of contributions, including student success stories and faculty research and scholarly activities made possible from donations to the campaign.
