UNLV’s shared governance structure ensures meaningful faculty participation in decisions. Faculty members influence key areas like personnel policies, admissions, curriculum, and more through committees, advisory groups, and other governance structures. This framework empowers faculty to play a central role in managing and guiding the institution.

Bylaws

The institutional and unit bylaws serve as the governing framework for academic faculty. The bylaws outline the rules, procedures, and structure by which the school’s governance operates. Examples include the roles and responsibilities of the faculty, administration, and other stakeholders. The bylaws are established by the faculty and approved by the president of UNLV. Through the bylaws, the university and its divisions maintain consistency, transparency, and accountability in decision-making processes.

Interfolio (Folio) Information Management System

Interfolio, the university and School of Medicine's information management system for academic faculty members, is a secure, web-based platform. It provides a database and reporting tool for faculty to document their teaching, scholarship, and service. This platform is used for academic faculty processes, including annual evaluations and promotion and tenure reviews. It also incorporates a document curation platform for faculty to maintain their professional materials.

Conflict of Interest

The university values and encourages employee involvement in external activities that support its mission. Participation in these activities can create conflicts of interest and commitment, which can arise when personal or financial considerations interfere with an employee’s duties. To manage these risks, the university has established policies to identify, reduce, and address potential conflicts, ensuring that all external engagements align with the institution’s standards and responsibilities.
