Kinesiology

Students interested in a kinesiology major must complete the following:

  • Achieve a cumulative high school GPA of 2.5 or higher.
  • Complete an interview with the School of Integrated Health Sciences Advising Center.

Students interested in the graduate degrees within kinesiology must complete the following by the fall semester deadline (June 15) or spring semester deadline (November 15).

Prospective students should keep personal copies of all information submitted.

Applicants seeking admission must:

  • Possess an undergraduate major in kinesiology, exercise science, physical education, athletic training, biology, nutrition, or a related academic discipline.
  • Possess an overall undergraduate grade point average of 2.75/4.0 or have a minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0 in the last two years.
  • Completed the Graduate Record Examination prior to applying. Successful applicants generally have a 3.0 undergraduate GPA and a combined score within the 65th percentile on the verbal and quantitative sections and higher than a 3.5 on the analytical section.
  • Send the following information to the UNLV Graduate College:
    • A completed application for graduate studies
    • Official transcripts of all colleges and universities attended
  • Complete the UNLV Graduate College application. The UNLV Graduate College requires official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended.
  • Upload the following to the Apply Yourself system:
  • Copies of all transcripts sent to the Graduate College
  • Official GRE scores
  • A letter of intent that addresses reason(s) for wishing to earn an advanced degree, motivation for attending UNLV, summary of educational goals, summary of research activities and interests, possible faculty mentors
  • Two letters of recommendation from persons familiar with the applicant’s academic record and potential for graduate study

All domestic and international applicants must review and follow the Graduate College Admission and Registration Requirements.

Students interested in becoming graduate assistants must submit their applications by March 1.

Kinesiology Programs

Nutrition Sciences

Students interested in a nutrition sciences major must complete the following:

  • Achieve a cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 or higher.

    — or —

  • Complete a minimum of 24 semester credits in the core and foundation courses with a cumulative minimum grade point average of 2.75.
  • Complete an interview with the School of Integrated Health Sciences Advising Center.
Nutritional Sciences Programs

Athletic Training

The application process for the Athletic Training Education program takes place during the fall semester only. Completing the requirements does not guarantee admission. A maximum of 14 students are accepted each year.

To complete the application process, students must:

  • Complete or be currently enrolled in:
    • SIM 101 — Introduction to Athletic Training (or equivalent)
    • Anatomy (i.e., BIO 223, KIN 245, or equivalent)
  • Have a UNLV cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher. If new to UNLV, the cumulative GPA from all other schools attended will be used. Transcripts from all institutions, including UNLV, are required at the time of application.
  • Attend the athletic training program orientation meeting, scheduled for the second Thursday of September in BHS 449 at 4 p.m.
  • Complete 25 hours of observation in the UNLV Athletic Training Facilities during the five-week observation period.
  • Have two recommendation forms completed. UNLV athletic training faculty and staff may not complete these forms.
  • Submit the completed application.
  • Pass the written entrance examination.

The program director will select 20 students for interviews based on their written entrance exam scores, GPAs, recommendation letters, previous clinical experience, and application essays. The interviews will determine the 14 top students who will be accepted in the program. Those selected are required to declare athletic training as their major.

Doctor of Philosophy in Interdisciplinary Health Sciences
