The American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) is the professional association that represents the professional interests of more than 23,000 marriage and family therapists throughout the United States, Canada, and abroad.
The association provides continuing education, professional development, and advocacy services for its members. Student memberships are available; the membership includes a subscription to the Journal of Marital and Family Therapy and Family Therapy Magazine. Professional liability insurance is available to members. Members of AAMFT automatically become members of The Nevada Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (NAMFT).
This local group sponsors workshops in the state, monthly networking and continuing education meetings, and a quarterly newsletter. Students are expected to join AAMFT and can also obtain malpractice insurance through AAMFT.
The Nevada Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (NAMFT) is the Nevada division of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy.
NAMFT represents the professional interests of its members throughout Nevada.
Since its inception, NAMFT has been promoting the field of marriage and family therapy as an alliance with traditional methods of mental health services. This is accomplished through public relations campaigns, initiation and promotion of mental health-related legislation, and collaboration and cooperation with other mental health associations.
NAMFT conducts regular workshops and classes for its members to assist them in improving skills and practices. It also hosts an annual convention where experts address the latest updates in theory and practice.
The National Council on Family Relations (NCFR) is the oldest, multidisciplinary non-partisan professional organization that focuses on family research, practice, and education. NCFR has more than 3,500 family professionals throughout the United States, Canada, and abroad. The family science disciplines of the members represent a wide range of topics including: human development, family therapy, family health, family policy, family studies, family life education, feminist family studies, family research, and religion and families.
The organization provides continuing education, professional development, and advocacy services for its members. Student memberships are available; the membership includes a subscription to NCFR Report Magazine and the Journal of Marriage and Family or Family Relations Interdisciplinary Journal of Applied Family Studies or Journal of Family Theory and Review.
The mission of the International Marriage and Family Therapy Honor Society, Delta Kappa, is to provide marriage and family therapy professionals an ongoing scholarly forum for the exchange of ideas related to the development of research, and clinical practice. To this end, members are received and local chapters chartered to create symposiums workshops and other activities through which such professional leadership is encouraged and supported.
The UNLV MFT Program houses the Zeta Chapter of Delta Kappa. Delta Kappa Zeta Chapter is composed of UNLV MFT faculty members, graduate students, clinical and supervisory members within the local community, and alumni of the UNLV MFT program. The honor society provides continuing education and professional networking opportunities for members and non-members alike. Student memberships are available.
