Steps to follow after receiving your acceptance from UNLV’s Office of Admission

Freshmen

Register for New Student Orientation (NSO): Registration is easy! Simply login into MyUNLV and click the New Student Orientation Registration link found in the To Do List of your Student Center.

After completing the online registration process, you will receive an email confirmation. This will include program times, parking information, directions, and check-in information. The confirmation email verifies that you are registered for a session. Be sure to check spam and junk mail folders if you don’t initially receive your confirmation. If you have not received confirmation after completing the online registration process, please email orientation@unlv.edu with a request to resend the confirmation notice.

All incoming freshmen are required to attend New Student Orientation (NSO).

At NSO you will learn about campus life at UNLV, resources available to students, learn more about your major and graduation requirements, and most importantly receive your class schedule. In addition to all of the new information you will receive, you will also have the opportunity to connect with various staff throughout campus, including your advisors.

The earlier in the summer you can attend NSO, the more flexibility there will be to accommodate requests in your schedule, so try to attend as early as possible. Your advisors will provide you with your schedule during this orientation and you will be able to discuss any advanced placement credit, transfer courses, additional ACT/SAT scores, or placement tests, auditions and portfolio requirements during this time as well. Once you have attended NSO, you will be able to spend the rest of your summer relaxing, knowing the you are all set to begin your Freshman year!

Once you register for NSO or to meet your advisor, there are a few things you’ll want to prepare before that day:

  1. Know your login information and become familiar with MyUNLV;
  2. Activate your rebel mail account;
  3. Be sure to check your email on a regular basis and respond to any email that you might receive from; UNLV and/or from the advising center;
  4. Submit any additional test scores or transfer work you might have to the registrar’s office.

Transfer Students

You will have a “new student advising hold” placed on your account, which restricts you from register for classes until you have met with an academic advisor.

It is important therefore to schedule your advising appointment as soon as possible. Please call The College of Fine Arts Advising Center at 702-895-5390 as soon as you receive your letter of acceptance to schedule an appointment with an advisor.

During this appointment, you and your advisor will review any previous coursework; discuss your degree requirements; schedule your first semester of classes; and discuss your plans towards graduations. After this meeting, which usually takes between 30-60 minutes, your advisor will remove the hold and you will able to register for classes.

There are also several opportunities throughout the summer for you to attend New Student Orientation and you can email orientation@unlv.edufor specific transfer orientation dates. During these NSO sessions, you will have the opportunity to take a campus tour, learn about campus life, available resources, financial aid, and find the answers to any questions you might have.
