Administrative and Academic Units
University operations are categorized into academic or administrative units that report to the president and provost.
Administrative Units
Administrative units are charged with the logistical operations of the university. These units include:

- Intercollegiate Athletics

- Research and Economic Development
Academic Units
Academic units comprise the university's colleges, schools, departments, and educational programs. The provost's office oversees these units and is charged with ensuring the quality of faculty and the student body as well as academic and budgetary policy, expanding the research enterprise, and maintaining overall educational excellence. Officers reporting to the provost include:
- Vice provosts
- College and school deans and department chairs

University Governance and Organization
University governance at UNLV includes several bodies:

A 13-member elected body representing the Nevada System of Higher Education

A 19-member body that provides advise and counsel to the president on matters of university policy, procedure, and planning.

A policymaking body of UNLV faculty and professional staff

A standing committee of the Faculty Senate

A student government organization representing UNLV's undergraduate student body

A student government organization that promotes and represents the interests of graduate and professional students

A council that includes one delegate from each academic department that sponsors an advanced degree program, plus representatives from the Graduate Student and Professional Association
