The UNLV Writing Center welcomes any writer who is using AI. Our consultants are open to discussing AI tools and strategies that writers are using during writing consultations to encourage successful use of these resources within their writing and learning processes. However, it is the writer’s responsibility to:

  • Understand the AI policies of UNLV faculty, departments, and the university’s Student Academic Integrity Policy
  • Share relevant information with consultants to guide and inform feedback
  • Direct any questions about AI use in their coursework to their instructors.

The Writing Center administrators recognize that AI is constantly evolving. We are committed to ongoing training and education of ourselves and our staff on ethical and effective uses of AI in writing. We will revise our AI Statement to address changes to AI functionality, policies, and expectations, and we will gladly receive thoughts from writers across the university who wish to engage in those conversations.

For additional guidance, the Writing Center has handouts to help writers cite their AI use in MLA and APA format. For more information on using and evaluating AI tools, refer to the UNLV Libraries’ AI 101 Starter Guide.
