60 Years of Graduating Rebels

UNLV's first commencement was June 3, 1964. It was the year UNLV was elevated from a branch campus to a full degree-granting institution, and the state was celebrating its centennial. First to cross the stage was Class President Jon Cobain. Like so many UNLV students today, he was the first in his family to go to college. He and his fellow Rebels went on to build careers in education, business, nonprofits, and the sciences. After establishing his own mergers firm, he donated millions of dollars to his alma mater. Today, UNLV is Nevada’s largest university and has produced 150,000 graduates since 1964.
