- What is an ACE username and password?

ACE is the username and password used to log into the computer labs and the ResNet wired network.
- What can I do if I forgot my ACE username and password?

If you need an ACE username/password or have forgotten your username and password, please visit the ACE website or you can reset it at any University computer lab.
- What if I registered last year; do I have to re-register this year?

Yes, every academic year students must re-register their computers. At the beginning of the academic year, you will need to re-register your computer.
- What is the policy key it asks me to download? Why do I need to download it?

The policy key allows UNLV ResNet to verify that your computer is complying with University network and copyright policy. Failure to download the policy will result in the inability to reach the internet.
- What is a patch/Ethernet cable, how much is it and where can I get one?

To connect your computer or device to the ResNet, you need a piece of computer hardware called a patch cable. The patch cable transfers the messages from the network into language your computer can understand. Patch cables can cost between $2 and $30. The patch cable can be located at any electronics or office supply store.
- How can I keep my computer from receiving a virus?

There is a threefold approach to protecting yourself from viruses.
- Do not use file-sharing programs (i.e. Bittorrent) to download music or software unless you are absolutely certain as to the legitimacy of the source. Media piracy is a frequent source of malicious software.
- Beware of the attachments you open in email and instant messages, as these are among the more common sources of malicious software.
- Keep an up-to-date anti-virus program on your computer, and use it to scan your computer periodically. A free copy of Symantec anti-virus can be obtained from the Student Union room 231.
- Can someone assist me in connecting my computer?

- How do I connect to wireless routers?

With the addition of wireless access, personal wireless routers will no longer work or be allowed on the residential network. UNLV Wireless is compatible with 802.11 a/b/g/n products. For further information on UNLV Wireless and a coverage map please visit the UNLV wireless website.
- How can I get my wireless printer connected?

Wireless printers cannot connect to UNLV wireless at this time. If you wish to connect a printer to the UNLV network you will need to purchase a printer with an Ethernet port.
- How can I get my game station connected?

To connect a game station to ResNet, please follow the directions on the registration guide. At this time game stations cannot connect to the UNLV wireless system.
- How do I get my cellphone or tablet connected?

Cellphones and tablets that are Wi-Fi enabled can connect to the UNLV wireless network. Please follow the directions on the registration guide.
- What do I do if my cable television or room phone is not working properly?

If your room phone or cable television is not working, you need to file a Rebel Repair work order.
