Senior, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry
The Millennium Scholar wants to be a physician and develop new pharmaceuticals. She suggests finding a balance during your college years, putting your studies first.
- Growing Up
-
I grew up right here in the fabulous Las Vegas, Nevada! I attended Sierra Vista High School.
- Why UNLV?
-
I love Las Vegas and wanted to stay in the city if possible. Also, I heard good things about the chemistry department at UNLV, so the choice was perfect for me.
- What are you studying?
-
I am a senior biochemistry major and am also minoring in public health.
- Why biochemistry?
-
I chose this area of study mainly because I love chemistry. I have always been interested in all aspects of healthcare, from the scientific research that produces the care and products available, to the modes of delivering healthcare to the community. I am predominately interested in pharmaceutical development, which is why I chose the biochemistry major.
- Future Plans
-
My long-term plans include being a practicing physician, a medical researcher, and hopefully a successful drug designer.
- Advice for Students
-
Find the best balance between enjoying your college years, and also working productively towards your future goals. If sacrifices on either side need to be made, I would suggest putting your studies first, if possible.
- Scholarships or Awards
-
I received the Governor Guinn Millennium Scholarship when I graduated high school. I also received the 2013-2014 Analytical Chemistry Undergraduate Award from the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. I also am a 2014-2015 recipient of the Harold and Mayme Stocker Scholarship.
- Outside Work
-
I like watching sports, especially baseball. I also am a big music fan, especially of classic rock, with U2 being my favorite band. I spend a lot of time attending concerts when possible.
