The UNLV Hot Work Program establishes the minimum requirements and procedures for prevention of fires that may result from hot work. A central element of this program is the online hot work permit which is required and applies to all university departments, employees, students, and contractors who perform hot work on UNLV property. RMS has updated our program using guidance from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and the Nevada System for Higher Education (NSHE).
Hot work is any operation involving open flames or operations that produce heat or sparks such as welding, cutting, grinding, brazing, soldering, and torch applied roofing. If you need to perform a hot work operation at UNLV, a permit is required.
