Communication

The ability to apply the knowledge of effective and appropriate communication patterns when interacting with others, and expressing the ability to use and adapt that knowledge in various contexts.

Articulate thoughts and ideas clearly and effectively in written and oral forms to persons inside and outside of the organization. The individual has public speaking skills; is able to express ideas to others; and can write/edit memos, letters, and complex technical reports clearly and effectively.

Uses relational skills to effectively communicate. This includes verbal and nonverbal interactions between interdependent people; interpersonal communication occurs across channels/platforms (can be face-to-face or over email, social media, phone calls, etc.).

Emotional Intelligence (EQ)

The ability to understand and manage one’s own emotions as well as to have an awareness of the emotions of others to guide one’s thinking and behavior.

The ability to keep your disruptive emotions and impulses in check, to maintain your effectiveness under stressful or even hostile conditions.

The ability to differentiate between subtleties in one's own emotions while understanding the cause of these emotions and the impact they have on the thoughts and actions of oneself and others.

The ability to adjust to short-term change quickly and calmly, so that you can deal with unexpected problems or tasks effectively.

The ability to express an attitude reflecting a belief or hope that the outcome of some specific endeavor, or outcomes in general, will be positive, favorable, and desirable.

The ability to understand and share the feelings of another, expressing compassion and understanding for others.

Critical Thinking and Problem Solving

The ability to exercise sound reasoning to analyze issues, make decisions, and overcome problems.

Professionalism

The ability to understand and demonstrate behaviors and work habits consistent to the standards within specific careers and organizational ecosystems, while appreciating and accepting the cultural richness of colleagues.

The ability to take responsibility for all work activities and personal actions, follow through on commitments, and implement decisions that have been agreed upon among members of a group or team.

The ability to produce and achieve accomplishments on a routine or steady basis - performing at a similar level throughout specific periods of time.

The ability to manage personal branding and advertising strategies through social media, professional documents, and other brand techniques (ie. portfolios, websites, etc.)

The ability to be aware and receptive to the lived experiences of others and utilize that information to inform one’s practice in the workplace.

The ability to adjust, change, or alter one’s actions to meet the goals, expectations, and realities of the environment and context of a workplace situation.

Cultural Intelligence (CQ)

The capability to relate and interact respectfully with people from different cultural backgrounds.

The ability to possess and exhibit curiosity, open-mindedness, and motivation to work well with others.

The ability to understand the kinds of differences that describe a cultural group without resorting to stereotyping. Demonstrate self-awareness and empathy.

The ability to process and plan for inclusive interactions across cultural differences while practicing metacognition and mindfulness.

The ability to adapt appropriate verbal and nonverbal behaviors when the cultural context requires it, displays humility.

Leadership

The ability to foster relationships with individuals in the attempt to influence and inspire others; work and thrive within a team; and be aware of broader contexts and communities in which leadership activities occur.

The ability or skill to perform problem solving in a complex, interrelated system. It looks at the connected
wholes rather than separate parts.

The ability to employ an analytical and creative approach to address problems, while drawing on individual and collective skills, knowledge, and experience.

The ability to recognize and compliment others for their contributions and good work. Recognition is the timely, informal or formal acknowledgment of a person’s or team’s behavior, effort, or business result that supports the organization’s goals and values.

Understanding of the balance - or lack of balance- between two or more people. It dictates the structure of all personal and professional relationships and can impact employee morale and productivity.

The ability to engage in democratic, inclusive, and transformative practices to change social structures and influence all stakeholders to collegially promote justice and equity.

Individual accountability to fulfill their civic duty and take actions that benefit society.

The ability to make decisions on the basis of the information you have, even if it isn’t the whole picture; to cope with uncertainty and risk; adapt to change, and have great problem solving skills.

The ability to adapt and respond to changing work situations and environments.

The ability to understand, hear, and process the perspectives and lived experiences of others to inform and alter one’s practice in a professional setting.

The ability to be driven to effectively engage in activities to develop or demonstrate skills in a workplace.
