Biography

Zachary Billot is a senior at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas pursuing a major in Political Science with minors in Brookings Public Policy and Great Works of Philosophy and Literature. He is a contributing researcher and coauthor of the Data Hub, a collaborative initiative between Brookings Mountain West and The Lincy Institute, which provides timely data and information related to the Las Vegas metropolitan statistical area, the state of Nevada, the Mountain West region, and beyond. Although Zachary has been most active in researching policy areas related to environment, youth physical and mental wellbeing, and the intersection between the two, he is often found taking on new tasks in order to learn more about the communities he calls home.

Zachary served as the Teaching Assistant for the Introduction to Public Policy course in the Spring of 2023 within the Brookings Minor and currently serves as a Peer Instructor for an Honors College First-Year Seminar course.  

Zachary has been the recipient of several awards for both his research and service to the community. On campus, his research on Municipal Waste, completed through the Brookings Public Policy Minor, was awarded the UNLV Lance & Elena Calvert Award. He is additionally the Nevada 2023 Harry S Truman Scholar, the Nevada 2023 Morris & Stewart Udall scholar, and completed the prestigious Public Policy and International Affairs Junior Summer Institute at Carnegie Mellon University. 

Outside of Campus, Zachary spends much of his time outside and loves to hike, explore new natural landscapes, and connect with the environment, being close to the issues he researches, such as environmental policy and international relations.
