Biography
Soumya Upadhyay is an associate professor at the Department of Healthcare Administration and Policy, School of Public Health. Dr. Upadhyay’s professional background includes Strategic Management Consultant at Kaiser Permanente, Performance Improvement Specialist at MD Anderson Cancer Center, and Clinical Data Analyst at Sutter Health.
Dr. Upadhyay’s research interests include patient safety and quality improvement, hospital quality and financial performance, Electronic Health Records, cultural competency at hospitals, and health education and promotion. Dr. Upadhyay engages in multidisciplinary collaborative research to explore how health information technology can be used to enhance healthcare quality, patient safety, and safety culture. She also examines if hospital cultural competency including diversity programs can influence quality, safety and financial performance. Some of her healthcare finance research has assessed cash conversion cycle in hospitals and the influence of working capital management on hospital performance. Her collaborative work has led to research grants funded by UNLV Office of Research and Economic Development, and private agencies.
Dr. Upadhyay teaches Management of Healthcare Organizations, and Health Services Research Methods. Dr. Upadhyay also serves as a peer-reviewer for numerous journals and conferences. She regularly disseminates her research by presenting at national and international conferences.
