Biography

Robert C. Wang, MD, FACS, is a professor and chair of the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV Department of Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery. With over 30 years of experience since finishing his training at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary Otolaryngology Residency Program and the MD Anderson Head and Neck Surgery Fellowship, Dr. Wang has expertise in tertiary level head and neck cancer treatment. He runs the sole head and neck tumor board in Las Vegas, partnering with his faculty who perform reconstruction including free flap transfers. He performs robotic assisted as well as laser surgery transorally for cancers.

A high volume thyroid surgeon with expertise in thyroid cancers and goiters including those extending substernally into the chest, Dr. Wang is also experienced in parathyroidectomy for primary, secondary, and tertiary hyperparathyroidism from non-renal and renal causes.

Dr. Wang has been treating laryngology patients with spasmodic dysphonia using botulinum toxin injections since 1991 and has clinical research interests in improving outcomes in vocal cord and parathyroid function in thyroidectomy, shoulder function after neck dissection.

In collaboration with bioengineering consultants, Dr. Wang and the otolaryngology program have been performing research in laryngeal joint replacement for laryngeal stenosis, artificial larynx and vocal cord development, modeling and treating obstructive sleep apnea, operating room fire prevention, artificial nose development, and modeling of middle ear sound conduction into the inner ear.
