Biography

Dr. Ovunc Bardakcioglu is the chief of colorectal surgery and faculty of the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV Department of Surgery, and tenured associate professor of surgery. He is the Director of the Digestive Health Institute at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center in Las Vegas. After graduation from the Medical School at the University of Cologne in Germany, he completed his general surgery residency at Beth Israel Medical Center, teaching hospital of Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City, and his colon and rectal surgery fellowship at Cedars Sinai Medical Center, teaching hospital of UCLA School of Medicine in Los Angeles. He then joined the faculty at the Department of Surgery at Saint Louis University as an Assistant Professor of Surgery and Chief of the Section of Colon & Rectal Surgery and practiced in St. Louis for 5 years.

Dr. Bardakcioglu is certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery. His clinical practice includes the entire spectrum of colon & rectal surgery including cancer of the colon and rectum, ulcerative colitis, Crohn`s disease, diverticular disease, fecal incontinence and pelvic floor dysfunction, benign diseases of the anorectum and colonoscopy including advanced techniques such as endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD). Dr. Bardakcioglu proctored general and colorectal surgeons nationally in the use of robotic technology and was invited to host the meet the expert session for laparoscopic colectomy at multiple American College of Surgeons national meetings. He organized multiple symposia and workshops for new techniques in minimal invasive colorectal surgery training surgeons from the US and abroad.

He is the editor of a landmark textbook “Minimal invasive and robotic colorectal surgery” and he helped develop the standards manual for accreditation of national centers of excellence in rectal cancer. Dr. Bardakcioglu is actively participating in multiple prospective randomized national surgical trials. He acquired numerous awards including peer chosen Castle Connolly “Top Doctor in America 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018”, “Best Doctors Las Vegas 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018”, “Best Doctors St. Louis 2011 and 2012” and patient chosen “America`s Most Compassionate Doctors Award 2010”.
