Biography
Olena Mazurenko, Ph.D., is an assistant professor at the Department of Health Care Administration and Policy. She holds a Ph.D. in Health Care Administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, a medical degree in the specialty of internal medicine from Ukraine, and completed her master’s degree in International Health in Germany. Dr. Mazurenko has served as a reviewer for leading journals in the management field, including the Journal of Healthcare Management and the Journal of Management Policy and Practice. Dr. Mazurenko teaches human resource management, strategic management, and introduction to health care system courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Research
Dr. Mazurenko's primary research interests are related to innovative approaches to health system redesign, such as care coordination and the concept of the patient-centered medical home. Additionally, she is involved in research that analyzes the issue of employee job satisfaction and turnover by applying it to the different health systems, e.g. industrialized versus developing countries. Her prior research examined the contraceptive knowledge and practice among Ukrainian female population. She regularly publishes and presents her research at national and international meetings, such as the American Public Health Association, the Southern Management Association, and the European Academy of Management.
