Biography
Mohammad A. (Omar) Khan, MD, who completed a fellowship in forensic psychiatry from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, New York City, is an assistant professor and forensic psychiatry fellowship program director at the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health
Dr. Khan, who also completed a fellowship in public psychiatry at the NYU School of Medicine in New York City, has almost 20 years of experience in psychiatry, with special interest in correctional and forensic populations.
He served as unit chief and clinical director of quality improvement for the forensic division at Bellevue Hospital in New York City prior to coming to Las Vegas, where he was recruited to serve as the founding medical director for the Stein Forensic Facility.
Dr. Khan went on to serve as director of psychiatry at Clark County Detention Center before becoming regional psychiatry director at Incompetent To Stand Trial Services in California for Recovery Solutions – Wellpath.
After receiving his medical doctorate from Universidad Tecnologica de Santiago in the Dominican Republic, Dr. Khan worked as a clinical research assistant in the psychiatry department at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City prior to completing residency training in psychiatry at an affiliate of Mount Sinai School of Medicine.
Dr. Khan has co-authored book chapters in texts related to correctional and forensic psychiatry and presented at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law, as well as the National Commission on Correctional Health Care.
