Biography
Michael Brown is a Nevada business leader and former Executive Director of the Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development Office.
Mr. Brown held two cabinet positions in the Administration of Governor Steve Sisolak, first as the Director of the Department of Business & Industry and then as Executive Director of the Governor’s Office of Economic Development. During the Pandemic, Brown was a senior state leader during the response and recovery phases and then developed the resiliency plan that guided Nevada’s economic recovery and relief initiatives.
Mr. Brown began a distinguished career at Barrick Gold Corporation in 1994, where he held various positions with responsibilities in the United States and overseas. He served as President of Barrick Gold of North America from 2015 to 2019.
Mr. Brown is a past Chairman of the Nevada Mining Association and served on the Executive Committee of the National Mining Association. Before joining Barrick, Mr. Brown was an executive at the trade association management firm of Klein & Saks in Washington, DC.
Mr. Brown was Special Assistant to the Director of the Mint at the Department of the Treasury for the eight years of the Reagan Administration. He started his career on the Ohio House of Representatives staff as a House Page for Representative William G. Batchelder.
Mr. Brown is deeply engaged in civic affairs in Nevada, where his board service has included: the Council for a Better Nevada, Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance, Public Education Foundation, Opportunity Village, Three Square Food Bank, and Nevada Ballet Theatre.
Mr. Brown holds a Bachelor of Science from The Ohio State University and a Master of Business Administration from George Washington University. He has an Associate of Arts degree from the Lorain County Community College, where he sponsors a leadership program for First Generation college students.
