Biography
Maile Chapman is the author of Your Presence Is Requested at Suvanto, short-listed for the Guardian First Book Award and a finalist for the PEN Center USA literary award in fiction. Her second novel, forthcoming from Graywolf Press in 2025, is about the nature of memory in a family affected by Alzheimer’s disease as well AD/HD, its many comorbidities, and the occult. She received her MFA in fiction from Syracuse University, her Ph.D. in English from UNLV, and has been a fellow at the New York Public Library’s Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Center for Scholars and Writers. She was a Fulbright/ASLA Grantee to Finland, researching hospital and institutional architecture, and has facilitated medical humanities and creative writing groups for health care workers, hospital staff, and veterans. Her stories have appeared in A Public Space, Best American Fantasy Writing, Dublin Review, Boston Review, GRANTA Online, and elsewhere.
