Biography

Kris Gunawan, Ph.D., is an experimental psychologist with a background in cognitive science. He joined UNLV’s Department of Psychology in 2020 as a faculty-in-residence. His research interests are in pedagogical effectiveness, human memory, and discourse processing.

He has taught various psychology courses in the past at different institutions, such as biopsychology, cognitive psychology, general psychology, learning and memory, perception, psychometrics, research methods, and statistics. At UNLV, he has taught career and professional development in psychology, cognitive neuroscience, graduate statistics, perception, senior capstone in psychology, and the teaching of psychology.

Gunawan has received awards for the Excellence in Teaching and Mentoring in Psychology at UNLV (2023), Distinguished Faculty of the Year at Centenary University (Hackettstown, NJ) (2018-2019), and Distinguished Psychology Faculty of the Year at California State University, Fullerton (2015-2016).

He earned his doctoral degree in experimental psychology at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 2014.
