Biography

Julie Ivy teaches graduate and undergraduate level music theory and aural skills classes at UNLV. She is currently a member of the Las Vegas Woodwind Quintet, and principal flutist with the Nevada Chamber Symphony. She has also played flute and piccolo with the Nashua Symphony Orchestra, the Southern Nevada Wind Ensemble, and the Nevada Symphony Orchestra. She has been a frequent judge for Solo and Ensemble festivals and the All-State flute auditions in the state of Nevada.

For many years, Julie served as the assistant music minister at First Presbyterian Church where she founded the church orchestra, created many arrangements and compositions, and conducted various ensembles.

She currently directs, composes, and arranges for the Sirocco Flutes, a community flute ensemble in the Las Vegas area.

Julie holds a B.A. in music theory and flute performance and a M.M. in flute performance from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. She is a two-time recipient of the part-time Fine Arts teacher of the year award, and maintains an active private flute studio.
