Gregory Levitt, professor of social studies education, has a doctorate in Social Studies Education with a focus on Global/Multicultural education and Asian studies from the Ohio State University. Prior to receiving his doctorate, he taught high school Social Studies for ten years in Columbus, Ohio. For the previous ten years, he was a professor and Associate Director of the Asian Studies Program at the University of New Orleans. Dr. Levitt has participated in and directed overseas study tours for educators to China, India, Thailand, Japan and Vietnam. He also helped lead a student delegation to Honduras in 1999 to assist with relief work related to Hurricane George.

He is the past editor of the Louisiana Social Studies Journal and member of the editorial review board for the China section of "Education About Asia". Dr. Levitt's publications include: The Social Studies Web, Teaching About Global Issues Using the Internet, The Minority Nationalities in South China and the Chinese Tea Culture, and the Chinese American Citizens Alliance. His dissertation is titled, "1989 Beijing Spring, P.R. China: The Events and How They Were Portrayed in Primary and Middle Schools in Beijing August-December 1989."  Dr. Levitt's grant activities include a Fulbright-Hayes Group Projects Abroad grant for "Understanding Vietnam: An International Curriculum Development Project", a Louisiana Education Quality Support Fund grant for the "Technology in Teacher Training Project", a USDOE grant for "Internationalizing the Undergraduate Curriculum Through Social-Studies Teacher Training and Critical Language Instruction" and a U.S.-Japan Foundation grant for the "Urban Teachers in the South: Japan in the Schools Program".
