David Coyner, D.M.A
Biography
David Coyner is a director of the UNLV "Star of Nevada" Marching Band. In addition to the marching band, Coyner leads the UNLV Runnin' Rebel Pep Band and teaches music education courses. Prior to his appointment to UNLV, Coyner was the director of bands at the College of Southern Nevada, associate director of bands at Foothill High School in Henderson, NV and the director of bands at North Valleys High School in Reno, NV.
Coyner is a graduate of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas where he earned his doctoral of musical arts (DMA) degree in instrumental conducting under Thomas G. Leslie. Coyner also holds degrees from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City where he received a master’s degree in wind band conducting (MM), under the tutelage of Professor Scott Hagen. He holds a bachelor of arts in music education from the University of Nevada, Reno where he studied conducting under Dr. A.G. McGrannahan III and Dr. Jason Altieri.
Additionally, Coyner is an active composer, arranger and drill writer. Coyner’s works have been performed by collegiate, high school, and middle school bands, and his arrangements can be heard at high school and collegiate football games around the country.
