Community Outreach Graduate Assistant
Biography
Brian Garcia is a community outreach graduate assistant at the School of Public Policy and Leadership’s Nonprofit, Community, and Leadership Initiative at the Historic 5th Street School in downtown Las Vegas. He had over a decade of leadership experience in the private sector before deciding to make a career change into the public and nonprofit sectors. He received his bachelor’s degree in Public Administration with a minor in Solar and Renewable Energy from UNLV in 2014.
Currently, Brian is pursuing a Master’s in Public Administration and a certificate in Nonprofit Management. As part of his graduate assistant role Brian helps facilitate the Community Partnership for Opening Doors (CPOD), which is a collaborative effort of nonprofit organizations and private businesses to eliminate homelessness in the Las Vegas valley. Brian also serves as the Executive Director for the Grantwell program, which is a course that allows graduate students to gain competencies in grant evaluation and organizational behavior in the nonprofit and government sectors.
