Bertille Mavegam, MD, PhD, MPH, is the project manager of the Statistical Transparency of Policing (STOP) project at the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV Department of Surgery. Dr. Mavegam also serves as an instructor at the UNLV School of Public Health, where she teaches the Introduction to Public Health course. In addition, she is a member of the UNLV Academic Integrity Appeal Board & Student Conduct Hearing Board.

Dr. Mavegam earned a master’s degree of public health in 2016 as well as a doctorate degree in public health in 2021 from UNLV. She also holds a medical doctorate degree from Abdou Moumouni University in Niger, Africa. Dr. Mavegam is proficient with quantitative and mixed-method research techniques, has presented her work at several state and national public health conferences, and published in scientific peer-reviewed journals. Her expertise includes planning, coordinating, and evaluating programs. In her current project manager position, she is responsible for the oversight and execution of the STOP project, including its development, implementation, reporting, and communication of findings with key stakeholders and the public.

Dr. Mavegam’s professional interests include injury prevention, social determinants of health, health disparities, and health equity. She also explores the impact of policy, whether health-related or not, on community and public health, and the built environment as it relates to community health. Dr. Mavegam has conducted research in many areas, including traffic safety, neighborhood walkability, food security and access, infectious and chronic disease prevention, and health equity issues within communities.
