Andrew Kauffman joined the Department of World Languages and Cultures at UNLV in 2022. Before joining UNLV, he taught courses in East Asian popular culture, modern and contemporary Chinese literature, and various levels of Chinese language at Indiana University and Macalester College. He holds a Ph.D. in Chinese from Indiana University.

Kauffman’s research interests include modern and contemporary Chinese literature, Chinese cinema, and literary translation. His current book-length project examines literary, visual, and spatial representations of martyrdom in twentieth-century China. His most recent article, “Imagining the New Socialist Child: The Cultural Afterlife of the Child Martyr Wang Erxiao”, appeared in the academic journal Cross-Currents: East Asian History and Culture Review.
