Get To Know This Resident
Why did you choose the obstetrics and gynecology residency program at the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV?
When I was a fourth-year medical student, I was able to rotate with UNLV OB-GYN as one of my sub-internships. I am one of the military residents (HPSP). I strongly desired to attend a joint-residency program to ensure that I was still able to have community outreach and diverse learning opportunities. I found my interactions with the residents very comfortable, and even during the stressful experiences that can occur in OB-GYN, the residents were there for each other. It was amazing to see interns on their first day operating and see the extensive learning opportunities this program offered. I also wanted a change of scenery since I had grown up in the Midwest.
What are your interests within obstetrics and gynecology?
One of the reasons that I love the field of OB-GYN is the diversity within this field. In a given shift, you can go from seeing patients in clinic to doing cesarean deliveries to emergent surgeries for ruptured ectopic all in one day. I really enjoyed my rotations on gynecologic oncology and urogynecology, which are very surgery-oriented.
What is your favorite thing to do in Las Vegas?
I have a few favorite things to do in Las Vegas from outdoor activities like hiking to trying local bakeries/coffee shops.
What is one fun fact about you?
My first spoken word was “Chocolate”… which suits me well since I have a big sweet tooth.
