Each year, the NSHE Regents recognize one outstanding undergraduate scholar at each NSHE institution with the Sam Lieberman Regents’ Award for Student Scholarship. Awards are based on distinguished academic accomplishments (including research and other scholarly activities), leadership ability, and service contributions while a registered student, as well as the nominee’s potential for continued success.
Recipients must be nominated for this award and meet the eligibility requirements below. The award carries a $5,000 stipend.
These awards are presented annually to 1 undergraduate student from each NSHE institution. Nominees must meet the following criteria to be eligible:
- Nominees must be currently enrolled in no fewer than 9 undergraduate credits in the semester in which they are nominated.
- Nominees must have completed a minimum of 62 total credit hours within NSHE institutions by the time the award is granted.
- Leadership and service accomplishments must have occurred while the nominee is a registered NSHE student.
Nominees must be nominated by an NSHE academic or administrative faculty member. Self nominations are not accepted. Nominators must submit a formal nomination letter which speaks to the nominee’s accomplishments and promise. Requirements for the nomination letter can be found in the Regents’ Awards Guidance document.
Nominations must include a number of materials. These required materials include:
- Nomination form
- Table of contents
- Nomination letter
- Personal statement
- Letters of support (optional)
- Nominee’s curriculum vitae or resume
- Biography
