Events and Communications
Rebel Recovery will include continued and consistent communication, events, and activities that give our faculty, staff, and students a voice in the process. This includes student and employee-focused meetings related to safety, security, and available support services: (Scheduled event dates are subject to change.)
- "All Hands" faculty and staff meetings
- Recurring updates on campus safety and security enhancements
- President's mental health town hall
- Student town hall meetings on resiliency
- UPD-led security education training sessions
- Scheduled and pop-up events and meetings for students, faculty, and staff to offer mental health, counseling, and wellness support services
Upcoming Events
Wellbeing
Working with mental health and counseling staff on campus and in the community, our goal is to provide a variety of wellness services, events, and training opportunities throughout the spring. This will include pop-up mental health events, enhanced drop-in and group-based trauma therapy sessions, and training opportunities for employees and supervisors. This is in addition to services typically offered.
These will include but will not be limited to:
- Mobile mental health support Virtual and in-person training for supervisors on ways to support faculty and staff who are dealing with stress
- Training for faculty and instructors on mental health and incorporating a trauma-informed approach to teaching
- Pop-up mental health and wellness activities with university and community support services
- Drop-in crisis support services for all UNLV community members
- Health education sessions and workshops on self-care, trauma-based coping strategies, and grounding skills
- Trauma-focused therapy groups for students (through CAPS) and employees (through Employee Assistance Program)
Recovery Coordinating Team (RCT)
The Recovery Coordinating Team will meet regularly to support effective and coordinated implementation of UNLV’s recovery efforts including campus repairs, safety enhancements, space utilization issues, and suggestions for campus communications related to these ongoing issues. The committee will provide regular updates on its activities to President Whitfield. This committee will work in the future with the recommendations that arise from the Campus Committee on Safety and Security and process feedback from other faculty staff and student groups. Members will include:
- Chris Heavey, Executive Vice President and Provost (Chair)
- Casey Wyman, Vice President for Business Affairs / Chief Financial Officer
- Vince Alberta, Vice President for Integrated Marketing & Branding / Chief Marketing Officer
Committee on Campus Security and Safety
The Committee on Campus Security and Safety, consisting of faculty, staff, students, and administrators, is reviewing existing security measures and protocols and identifying potential enhancements. Learn more about the committee’s charge, members, and progress.
Simultaneously, members of the president’s senior leadership team are meeting regularly to ensure campus repairs, immediate safety enhancements, and campus space utilization efforts continue as quickly as possible. They’ll also process feedback from the Committee on Campus Security and Safety, and from faculty, staff, and student groups.
