Windows Users May See Bitlocker Encryption Screen Beginning Feb. 25

On Tuesday, Feb. 25, if you have an IT-managed Windows computer you may see a prompt for Bitlocker encryption. Please click the Start button or click postpone to delay until a more convenient time.

To view a screenshot of the encryption prompt, please see the Windows Automatic Device Encryption article.

What Is Changing

UNLV IT continuously assesses the services we use to support campus, and we are upgrading our BitLocker disk encryption policy to use features that already exist within Windows. For more about these changes, please see the Computer Admin Access & Encryption initiative website.

Update to Windows 11 by July

Additionally, Windows users should consider upgrading to Windows 11 as soon as possible to take advantage of the new features and to prepare for the Windows 11 transition initiative

Windows 11 is available as a self-service upgrade in the Software Center now. In July, eligible computers will be automatically updated. Please contact the IT Help Desk if you need assistance with upgrading or replacing your computers.

We will send messages to the affected customers next week. If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact the IT Help Desk.
