Now Accepting Speaker Nomination Submissions for My Professional Origin Story

The My Professional Origin Story speaker series, hosted by the UNLV Graduate College, highlights the professional journeys of UNLV faculty, research scientists, and administrators. Origin stories matter. Understanding how people came to be where they are can give us insight into where we might be headed or how our own journeys may unfold.

Origin stories can be powerful tools for inspiring others. They demonstrate that success is often built on a foundation of perseverance, resilience, and learning from difficult experiences. Such "resilience" or "growth mindset" storytelling emphasizes the learning and development that comes from facing and overcoming challenges.

For this year's series, we invite the UNLV community to nominate academic faculty to share their professional journey and the experiences that led them to where they are today. Nominees should be current UNLV faculty members (tenure/tenure track or faculty in residence) who are willing to share their professional backstory, including key milestones and mentors, challenges, and achievements. Sharing origin stories helps to inspire students and the UNLV community  showing us how Rebels really do make it happen.

To be considered for our September event or to nominate someone, please submit the nomination form by Friday, August 23.
