Human Resources is pleased to announce its professional development schedule for fall 2024. This programming is free and open to all UNLV employees. 

Administrative Assistant Academy

Registration opens today for the fall 2024 cohort.

The Administrative Assistant Academy (A3) is an eight-week program designed to teach skills related to technical, professional, and administrative responsibilities. Training sessions include a combination of in-person seminars, interactive time with colleagues, webinars, and self-paced modules taught by subject matter experts and peers.

Space is limited and provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

HRPD Series: Effective Communication in the Workplace

The following seminars will cover verbal and non-verbal communication, written communication, and using communication skills in challenging and diverse workplace situations.

Effective Communication

Personal success and effective relationships depend on our ability to communicate. This workshop explores interpersonal skills and techniques necessary for successful interactions.

Interpersonal Communication: Say What You Mean 

This interactive workshop will explore three different ways to enhance communication skills.. Each concept will be accompanied by an exercise and discussion to help participants integrate the material.

Appreciative Listening & Asking Questions

In this workshop, participants will learn and practice appreciative listening through applied improvisation games and other experiential exercises. Additionally, participants will learn the difference between open and closed-ended questions and how to use them effectively depending on the situation and desired outcome.

Setting Expectations & Providing Feedback

This interactive workshop discusses the importance of creating clarity around expectations and how to provide both positive and constructive feedback to support those expectations. Participants will practice and gain comfort with these foundational leadership skills.

Working Better with Challenging Individuals 

This interactive session will explore common workplace personality types. Through small-group discussion, role playing, and collective problem-solving, participants will learn how to be less frustrated and more functional, even when working with challenging people.
