Computer Hard Drive Encryption, Use MakeMeAdmin App for Admin Privileges

Over the next few weeks, UNLV Information Technology system administrators will complete encrypting hard drives and standardizing user privileges for IT-managed computers. The process includes:

  • Encrypting your hard drive to protect against unauthorized access.
  • Changing user permissions from administrator to standard users, if applicable.
  • Installing the MakeMeAdmin application on Windows computers so that you can temporarily enable admin privileges when you need to install software, complete security updates, etc. Mac users, please contact the IT Help Desk to have MakeMeAdmin installed.

These changes will greatly help protect the data of our students, faculty, and staff against attacks while providing better ways for you to do the important work that you do.

Please see the Computer Admin Access & Encryption website for more information, including the benefits and outcomes of this project.

If you have questions or need assistance, please contact the IT Help Desk.
