The UNLV offices of educational compliance and accessibility resources recognize Karen Asquith, director of IT Strategic Planning & Communications, as our April 2025 Rebel Accessibility Hero.
As administrators, faculty, and staff at institutions of higher education and other public entities move toward addressing a crucial ADA Title II deadline of April 24 of 2026, tools like Anthology Ally will be critical. Ally has been available for almost three years within WebCampus and Karen was a key supporter of and guide in its eventual acquisition.
In the summer of 2020, Asquith was part of the team that developed an accessible COVID Safety Training which evolved into a WebCampus-based "Return Safely to Campus" training module. As we entered the second year of the pandemic, she was part of a critical online cohort in the Office of Accessibility Resources (OAR) Foundations of Accessibility training course, with the campus having moved almost entirely to online course delivery.
Asquith provided coordination between OAR, various UNLV governance groups and the WebCampus team in the Office of Information Technology (OIT) with messaging about the Ally tool, integration into WebCampus and funding. She gave OAR crucial assistance in crafting communication and responses to Ally-related inquiries that resulted in a successful proposal.
Asquith serves as this galvanizing force, inspiring and motivating our UNLV community into action, exciting those in her path, and providing a jolt of energy that prompts us all to want to take action towards improving our accessibility at UNLV.
Please join us all as we recognize Karen Asquith as our April 2025 Rebel Accessibility Hero!
