The fall semester at UNLV begins Aug. 27. The following events are a snapshot of activities for new and returning students and provide a variety of photo and interview opportunities. Media interested in attending the events are asked to coordinate with the Office of Media Relations at 895-3102.

Residence Hall Move-In
Dates/Times: Thursday, Aug. 23 and Friday, Aug. 24 between 8 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.
Location: Dayton Complex Residence Hall, Upper Class Complex and Tonopah Hall
Description: More than 1,000 students are moving to campus and into the residence halls.
Media: Enter at Tropicana Boulevard and Thomas & Mack Center
Rebel Welcome Day and New Student BBQ
Date/Time: Friday, Aug. 24, from noon to 2 p.m.
Location: Alumni Amphitheater near UNLV Student Union Courtyard.
Description: New students and their parents are officially welcomed to the university during a campus BBQ.
Media: Park in front of Student Union off Maryland Parkway and Maude Frazier Way.
UNLV Fall Semester Begins
Date: Monday, Aug. 27 at 8 a.m.
Description: Throughout the day, UNLV staff will run "ask me" booths to answer students' questions. The booths will be located at the Student Union, Pida Plaza, the Student Recreation and Wellness Center, and Lied Library.
Premier UNLV
Date/Time: Wednesday, Aug. 29, 5 to 9 p.m.
Location: North Field (east of the UNLV Student Union, near the Lied Library)
Description: An annual tradition featuring fireworks and the formation of a giant illuminated "UNLV" created by hundreds of UNLV students and alumni with flashlights.
UNLV Rebel Football Home Opener vs. Minnesota
Date/Time: Thursday, Aug. 30 at 8 p.m.
Location: Sam Boyd Stadium
Description: Join UNLV head football coach Bobby Hauck and the Rebel football team for the first home game of the season.

UNLV State of the University Speech
Date/Time: Thursday, Sept. 13, 10 to 11: 30 a.m.
Location: UNLV Judy Bayley Theatre
Description: UNLV President Neal Smatresk will provide an update on the university.
