Examining various stages of paintings by Jan van Eyck and recollections from 19 years of a morning radio news program will be the topics of discussion during the University Forum lecture series in coming weeks.
"Inner and Outer Space in the Painting of Jan van Eyck" is a slide-illustrated lecture presented by Carol J. Purtle, a University of Memphis art professor. The lecture will take place at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 25 in the Alta Ham Fine Arts building, Room 257.
Purtle will offer insight into the development of the Flemish artist's work by using current technical methods to reveal the under-drawings and intermediate stages of his paintings.
On March 1, National Public Radio broadcaster Carl Kasell will present "NPR's 'Morning Edition:' Nineteen Years and Counting." It will take place in the Flora Dungan Humanities building, Room 109 beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Kasell will recall the start of the national morning news program and its growth during the past 19 years. He will shares events and personalities that have shaped the news as the program enters its 20th season.
All University Forum lectures are free and open to the public.
The University Forum lecture series is sponsored by the College of Liberal Arts and is underwritten by the UNLV Foundation. Purtle's presentation also is sponsored by UNLV's art department.
