University Forum is a free public lecture series sponsored by the UNLV College of Liberal Arts and underwritten by The Jerry Kalafatis Lodge Charitable Foundation and the UNLV Foundation. The following lectures will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Natural History, located on the UNLV campus. The lectures are free and open to the public.
Oct. 7
"Wind Music of the World"
Orpheus Winds, a faculty ensemble from Brigham Young University, will explore French, Hungarian, and Cuban dance melodies and rhythms for woodwinds. The presentation will include both a lecture and recital.

"Ted Solotaroff: Editing, Publishing and Writing in America"
Ted Solotaroff, author and editor emeritus from Harper/Collins, will speak about his new book, "Alfred Kazin's America," and provide a view of American publishing over the past 50 years.
Oct. 18
"Fighting For Air: How Big Media Drowns out Local Voices"
Eric Klinenburg, assistant professor of sociology at New York University, will discuss how major media outlets are displacing independently owned and operated news companies. He will also discuss how the government is responding to the crisis and how ordinary Americans are fighting back.
Oct. 22
"Re-Engineering' Chinese Personality for a Global Age"
Aiwha Ong, professor of anthropology at California, Berkely, will discuss China's changing business climate, its burgeoning corporate power, and the education of foreign managers in the Chinese business environment.
Oct. 26
"Khaled Matawa, A Poetry Reading"
Khaled Matawa, assistant professor of English at the University of Michigan, will read from his award-winning publications, "Ismealia Eclipse" and "Zodiac of Echoes." He has also translated five international books, most recently "Without an Alphabet, Without a Face," by Iraqi poet Saadi Youssef.
