Upcoming University Forum lectures at UNLV will focus on Korea and the efforts of Abraham Lincoln to end slavery.
On Feb. 10, Andy Nazarechuk, UNLV assistant professor of tourism and convention administration, will present "Korea: Land of the Morning Calm."
During this slide-illustrated lecture, Nazarechuk will take the audience on a virtual tour of the exciting city of Seoul, the infamous demilitarized zone, and various World Heritage sites located in South Korea. He will also discuss the importance of Korea's history and culture in today's global society.
On Feb. 12, Michael Vorenberg, assistant professor of history at Brown University, will present "Abraham Lincoln, Slavery and American Memory."
Vorenberg, who is considered one of the nation's leading experts on the 13th amendment, will examine how Americans have responded to Lincoln's efforts to resolve the issue of slavery.
Both lectures will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Natural History. All University Forum lectures are free and open to the public. No reservations are required.
The University Forum lecture series is sponsored by UNLV's College of Liberal Arts and is underwritten by The Jerry Kalafatis Lodge Charitable Foundation and the UNLV Foundation.
