"China's Garden Cities - Hangzhou and Suzhou" is the title of a Jan. 30 lecture, the first of the Spring 2003 University Forum lectures series at UNLV.
Andy Nazarechuk, lecturer in UNLV's department of tourism and convention administration, will take attendees on a photographic journey through the cities that Marco Polo called "paradise on the earth." Learn about the rich cultural history of each town and discover why a visit to China would be incomplete without a trip to the garden cities.
On Feb. 6, Alice Schlegel, professor of anthropology at the University of Arizona, will discuss the relationships between adolescents and adults in "Are Adolescents 'A Tribe Apart?'"
During her lecture, Schlegel will compare the cultural reasons behind why adolescents and adults interact with each other differently in the U.S. than they do in Germany and Italy. She will also explore why some European countries seem to have a wider array of positive role models for contemporary youth.
Both lectures will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Natural History. All University Forum lectures are free and open to the public.
The University Forum lecture series is sponsored by the College of Liberal Arts and is underwritten by The Jerry Kalafatis Lodge Charitable Foundation and the UNLV Foundation.
