Representatives from UNLV's Gerontology Certificate Program will host an informational meeting April 19 to discuss the course work required for the certificate and to explain career opportunities that are available in the fast-growing field of aging services.
The meeting, which is free and open to the public, will begin at noon in the university's William D. Carlson Education Building, Room 214. Because of space limitations, reservations are required. Reservations may be made by calling 895-1079.
"As our society grows older, there is a rapidly expanding need for people who are trained to serve older adults," said Dr. Ann McDonough, director of the program. "The Gerontology Certificate Program is specially designed to help prepare people to meet that need."
The program's curriculum includes state-of-the-art courses on aging and incorporates 24 academic credits from a variety of college departments at UNLV, including social sciences, senior theatre, marketing, nursing, leisure studies, kinesiology, counseling, nutrition, and health care administration. The Gerontology Certificate may be awarded by itself or in conjunction with a degree program at UNLV.
For additional information and/or to make reservations to attend the meeting, call the UNLV Gerontology Certificate Program's office at 895-1079.
The informational meeting is being cosponsored with the Nevada Geriatric Education Center, a joint program of the University of Nevada School of Medicine and the Sanford Center on Aging. Refreshments will be served.
