LAS VEGAS - July 17, 2008 - For the third consecutive year, the Jean Nidetch Women's Center at UNLV has received funding from the Southern Nevada Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure to carry out the Rebel Rally for a Cause - an educational and awareness-based outreach program for breast cancer detection and prevention at UNLV.
Rebel Rally for a Cause has received nearly $70,000 in total funding from the Komen Foundation to provide educational workshops, referrals for free or reduced cost mammograms and clinical breast exams, and educational and promotional materials embracing healthy lifestyle factors. The grants have also allowed the Center to promote breast cancer awareness on campus with the Pink Cause Golf Cart and through event sponsorships such as the "Think Pink" UNLV women's basketball game and the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.
In addition to the Rebel Rally for a Cause, The Jean Nidetch Women's Center strives be a welcoming and inclusive center that serves as a model of collaboration and empowerment. The Center is known on campus and in the surrounding community as a leader in advancing the diversity of interests and aspirations of students associated with UNLV. The center also provides scholarships, workshops, seminars, re-entry services and special events focused on domestic and sexual violence prevention.
Susan G. Komen for the Cure is the world's largest grassroots network fighting to end breast cancer forever. The Southern Nevada Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen is one of 125 member-affiliates.
