UNLV has established a new Writing Center that will offer its services free of charge to all university students, according to the center's director Tracey Schwarze.

"Students from across the curriculum are welcome to use the center free of charge," said Schwarze. "They can receive help at all stages of the writing process, from generating ideas to developing and polishing later drafts."

Students can sign up for 30-minute appointments by calling (702) 895-3908 or by dropping by the center, located in the Flora Dungan Humanities Building, Room 240. The center will also take walk-ins when writing consultants are available.

The center is being staffed by composition instructors who are graduate assistants in the English department, Schwarze said.

She noted that although the center does not offer proofreading services, it will help the students themselves identify and correct problems in their own writing.

The center also plans to offer a series of special workshops in October and November on grammar, punctuation, and essay development.
