The UNLV Wind Orchestra will present its first concert of the season, "Spirit of America," featuring Bellagio performing artist Dian Diaz, at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 7 in Artemus W. Ham Concert Hall on the UNLV campus.
The concert, hosted by Channel 8's Casey Smith, will feature American folk classics, such as "Yankee Doodle," as well as pieces by Morton Gould, an armed forces salute, a salute to baseball called "Pastime," and "Elegy for a Young American," written following the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.
"Spirit of America" is dedicated to current UNLV Wind Orchestra member Ken Mancour and former member Randy Grant, who both served with the fighting forces in Iraq.
Tickets are $5-$8 and can be purchased at the Performing Arts Center Box Office or by calling 895-ARTS (2787). Military will be admitted free.
