UNLV officials are warning Southern Nevada residents not to fall victim to a scam involving the unauthorized use of the university's name.
University police have received calls this week from citizens who report having been approached by people who offer to paint address numbers on curbs for a $5 donation. Callers have told university police that the people soliciting the business have said that the money will go to UNLV or to UNLV's student services office.
"We have not authorized anyone to do this, and any money collected certainly is not going to UNLV," said David Hollenbeck, director of public safety.
Hollenbeck asked that any citizen approached by someone making this claim call university police at 895-3668.
